SANCHEZ RELISHING FINNAN COMPETITION

SANCHEZ RELISHING FINNAN COMPETITION

Finnan - Espanyol new boy.

Espanyol youngster Sergio Sanchez believes the signing of Steve Finnan is a big plus for the side, even though it could affect his own chances of first-team football.

Finnan was drafted in from Liverpool on transfer deadline day to help cover the departure of Pablo Zabaleta to Manchester City, with the 32-year-old Republic of Ireland international penning a two-year contract with the Primera Liga outfit.

That could spell bad news for 22-year-old right-back Sanchez, who started last weekend's home win over Real Valladolid, but the home-grown youngster is looking on the bright side.

"It's normal that the club makes signings. David Garcia is injured, Zabaleta has gone," Sanchez said in Sport.

"He (Finnan) is a player with great experience in the Premier League and in Europe. He has played countless games and he can give us all of his experience.

"I'm confident, I feel good and my mission is to continue training, working and progressing,

"It would be good to share a dressing with a player like him. And, if I end up being the starter I will have even more merit."
