PIRES OUT OF OPENER

Villarreal winger Robert Pires has been ruled out of the opening game of the Primera Liga season after suffering a muscle spasm in his left thigh.
The Frenchman joins forward Giuseppe Rossi on the sidelines for the game against Osasuna, after the Italian twisted his ankle in a training ground collision with Marcos Senna on Tuesday.
A statement on the Villarreal website, www.villarrealcf.es, read: "Robert Pires has suffered a spasm in the back of his left thigh in training this morning (Wednesday) and will miss the league opener this weekend against Osasuna at the Reyno de Navarra."
