STOKE LINKED WITH ZIGIC SWOOP

Zigic - linked with Stoke.

Stoke have made a near-£8million bid for Valencia striker Nicola Zigic, according to reports in the Spanish media.

Aston Villa, Sunderland and Palermo are among the clubs to have been linked with Zigic this summer, while the 27-year-old is reported to have turned down Galatasaray as he wants to move to the Premier League.

Stoke have already failed in a loan bid for the 6ft 8in frontman, according to his agent, but they have now returned with a bid that Valencia are happy with.

Futbal Mercado claims the Potters have offered 10million euros up front, with a further 2million based on their and Zigic's success this season.

It says that the Spanish club have accepted the offer, but that the player himself may be unsure over a move to a newly-promoted side,

However, Los Che are desperate to sell some players to help ease their financial problems, and Zigic could be pushed into a move to the Britannia Stadium if no other club matches City's club-record bid.

Zigic signed a five-year deal with Valencia last summer following a 15million euros switch from Racing Santander and he scored seven in just 14 appearances, adding to the impressive 19 in 32 he notched for his former club.

He enjoyed even greater success for Red Star Belgrade, hitting 71 in just 110 games, and has 11 in 29 appearances for Serbia.

His capture would represent a huge coup for Stoke, who have so far added Dave Kitson, Seyi Olofinjana and Thomas Sorensen.
