Where Are England's Class Of 2005?
This week England's Under-19 side are in the Czech Republic for the European Championships - three years after they last qualified and reached the final. Where are they now? Hartlepool and Leicester for a start.
That England side lost to a French side captained by Younes Kaboul and featuring Abou Diaby, AC Milan's Yoann Gourcuff and new Boro signing Didier Digard. Here's the final England line-up in full...
DAVID MARTIN: Son of Alvin. Six months after that France final, Martin was signed by Liverpool from MK Dons and although he is yet to make his Reds debut, he was given a new contract this summer after a very successful season as the reserves keeper. He is expected to go on loan to a Championship club this season as Diego Cavalieri will undoubtedly keep him off the Liverpool bench.
TONY McMAHON: Injury and competition for places have restricted defender McMahon to just one Premier League substitute appearance in two seasons for Middlesbrough. But he has recently been awarded a one-year contract by Gareth Southgate so he has one more season to prove himself in the top flight.
MATTHEW MILLS: Still strictly speaking a Manchester City player after joining the club for £250,000 from Southampton just six months after that Under-19 final. But he has only featured twice for City in the Premier League and spent the majority of last season on loan at Doncaster, who he is expected to join on a permanent basis as soon a Mark Hughes has assessed his squad properly.
MARTIN CRANIE: The captain of that England side, Cranie left Southampton to link up with Harry Redknapp again at Portsmouth last summer but made only one Premier League start (against ManYoo) before being shipped off to join QPR on loan. A broken leg curtailed that advanture but Cranie is one of several players thought to be disgruntled with a lack of first-team opportunities at Portsmouth and could move again this summer.
ANDREW TAYLOR: Middlesbrough left-back who has made 66 league appearances for the club and in January of this year signed a new deal that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2011. Established himself as first-choice left-back in 2006-07.
RITCHIE JONES: Midfielder who had been at ManYoo since the age of nine but failed to make one league appearance for the club, with his five games coming in second-string cup sides. Finally released by the club this summer, he has joined League One side Hartlepool United.
GRANT LEADBITTER: Sunderland's longest-serving player, having made his debut for the club back in September 2003, he has recently signed a new deal to keep him at the club until 2011. One of Sunderland's outstanding performers in the Championship promotion season, he is one of the few players thought to be safe from the chop at Sunderland this summer.
MARK NOBLE: The midfielder had won the Young Player Of The Year award at West Ham in the season before the Under-19 tournament but looked on the verge of leaving the Hammers 18 months later after a lack of opportunities saw him enjoy a successful loan spell at Ipswich. But he has thrived under Alan Curbishley, featiring in 31 Premier League games last season and attracting interest from Arsenal among others.
JAMES MORRISON: Now a Scottish international, Morrison was another product of the Middlesbrough Academy. But he left last summer for West Brom in a £1.5m deal after finding himself often limited to substitute appearances (playing the same position as Stewart DOwning was his downfall). Will be back in the Premier League next season with the Baggies.
MATTY FRYATT: A hot prospect when a youngster with Walsall who was pin-pointed as a future full international, the striker finally left to join Leicester City in January 2006 and was a part of the Foxes side that failed to avoid relegation to League One at the end of last season.
LEE HOLMES: England's goalscorer in that final, Holmes had made his debut for Derby back in 2002 at the age of just 15 years and 268 days. He was bracketed with Tom Huddlestone and Giles Barnes as Premier League-bound English stars, but instead ended up on loan spells to Bradford and Walsall. Left the Rams this summer and joined Southampton after turning down Leeds and Nottingham Forest.
