Demontagnac the hero for Saddlers
Demontagnac: Netted a hat-trick
The Londoner took his chances in great style in the 50th, 69th, and 84th minutes as Southend's defence showed some alarming gaps.
Walsall took the lead in the 23rd minute when, following a corner, Marco Reich scored with a blistering angled drive.
But Southend fought back to equalise 10 minutes later, Hal Robson-Kanu scoring with a low drive from Lee Barnard's pass.
Seconds from half-time Alex Revell missed a wonderful chance to give The Shrimpers the lead when he headed straight at goalkeeper Clayton Ince from eight yards and he was made to pay for that three minutes into the second half when Southend midfielder Anthony Grant headed past his own keeper to restore the home side's lead, and another defensive howler saw Demontagnac make it three.
Demontagnac scored his second of the match with a flying header and with six minutes left notched his hat-trick with a remarkable cross-shot before Barnard scored Southend's second in a breakaway.
