JEWELL SET TO RING THE CHANGES

JEWELL SET TO RING THE CHANGES

Jewell - under pressure.

Under-pressure Derby boss Paul Jewell could make changes for his side's Carling Cup second round tie at Championship rivals Preston.

Jewell introduced Dean Leacock and Nacer Barazite at half-time in County's home league defeat to Southampton on Saturday.

Claude Davis and Steve Davies were the players to make way.

Forward Barazite, on loan from Arsenal until the end of the year, was impressive against Saints and could have done enough to thrust himself into the starting line-up at Deepdale.

Emanuel Villa made his first start of the season against Southampton and Jewell must decide whether to stick with the Argentinian or recall Nathan Ellington, whose hat-trick saw off League Two club Lincoln in round one of the competition.

Preston boss Alan Irvine will check on defender Callum Davidson ahead of the clash.

The full-back twisted his knee during the recent win over Crystal Palace, ruling him out of Scotland's midweek friendly with Northern Ireland and the weekend's 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday.

However, the injury is not as serious as first feared and he may be passed fit to return to action.

Striker Chris Brown is likely to be missing again with a painful bout of sciatica that has so far kept him sidelined this season.

Brown is expected to return against Charlton at Deepdale this weekend but goalkeeper Wayne Henderson (back) and defenders Liam Chilvers (Achilles) and Neal Trotman (hernia) all remain sidelined
