McPHAIL APOLOGISES FOR DISMISSAL

McPhail - apologises.

Stand-in skipper Stephen McPhail has issued an apology for his red card in Cardiff's south Wales derby against local rivals Swansea.

The midfielder, who was also given his marching orders when the two sides met in the Carling Cup earlier in the season, was dismissed in the 51st minute after being shown a second yellow card for kicking the ball away.

With the Bluebirds 2-1 in front at the time, manager Dave Jones admitted the sending-off possibly cost the visitors all three points after the Swans hit back to level the clash 2-2.

McPhail said on the club's official website: "I want to apologise to my team-mates, the club and, most importantly, the fans for getting sent off against Swansea. I fully appreciate just how much I've let myself, the club and the fans down. I reacted in the heat of the moment without really thinking.

"I know that going down to 10 men at that point in such a big local derby probably cost us all three points. Anyone that knows me will know it's totally out of character for me to do something like that and, as captain, I should know better."
