ZENIT: ARSHAVIN STAYING PUT

ZENIT: ARSHAVIN STAYING PUT

Arshavin - no Spurs move.

Zenit St Petersburg have confirmed to Sky Sports News that Andrei Arshavin will not leave the club before Monday's transfer deadline.

Zenit have revealed that even if their valuation of the player - around £20million - was met, it was now too late for a deal to be done.

Tottenham have been locked in talks about signing the highly-rated forward all summer - but a deal was never struck.

Now with Dimitar Berbatov set to depart the club, and Arshavin's countryman Roman Pavlyuchenko signed, it was claimed Spurs would again come back to try to make it a double Russian swoop.

But Zenit say that cannot now happen and Arshavin would be staying until January - the next transfer window - at the earliest.

Zenit managing director Mixim Mitrofanov has told Sky Sports News that they would no longer considers any bids for Arshavin.

"We won't be doing a deal now, even if our valuation was matched," he said.

"If a deal was agreed, it would only be for a pre-contract for next year."
