REDS EXTEND ABALIMBA STAY
Southend have agreed to allow Medi Abalimba to remain on trial at Liverpool until the end of the week.
The talented teenager turned out for the Reds' reserve team on Tuesday, playing just over an hour in a 1-0 defeat against Manchester City.
He is thought to have impressed Liverpool's coaching staff, but the club have asked for more time to reach a decision regarding the Congolese midfielder's future.
That means the 16-year-old will remain on Merseyside, with plans to hand him another run out during a practice match at the weekend.
"There is a training game on Friday that I am playing in and even if nothing comes of all this it has been a good experience," Abalimba told Southend's official website.
"To now know the actual standard I am aiming for will be a big help if I want to play at the top level.
"I played on the right wing against Manchester City and I did okay even though it isn't my preferred position.
"Most of the players playing were 23 or 24-years-old so it was a lot more physical than I am used to.
"That was my first game at that level but the reserve team manager said he was proud of how I played."
