SPURS v ASTON VILLA MIN-BY-MIN

SPURS v ASTON VILLA MIN-BY-MIN

54 min: Young celebrates with Reo-Coker.

FULL-TIME Tottenham 1 Aston Villa 2. It's all over at White Hart Lane as Aston Villa deservedly survive the last few minutes to close out a 2-1 win. Gomes is the villain for Spurs, as his gaffe from Ashley Young's second-half shot ultimately cost his side a point they didn't deserve. Thanks for joining us.

90: Bentley has two shots blocked late on as Spurs pressurise with a succession of corners.

90: Ashley Young is cautioned for time-wasting over a throw-in deep in Spurs' half.

90: We're halfway through four minutes of added time.

90: How did Harewood miss? Villa break through Milner who shoots straight at Gomes, but Villa work the rebound to Harewood who has an empty net to fire at - he shoots on target but Jenas flings himself in front of the ball to deny a certain goal.

88: That gives Spurs renewed hope but they hardly deserve to be in with a chance of getting a point.

87: GOAL - BENT! Spurs pull one back, and it's a lucky one. Jenas strikes one from distance, it hits Bent on the left knee and bobbles into the corner.

84: Marlon Harewood comes on for Agbonlahor. Woodgate concedes a corner after a poor backpass.

83: Agbonlahor is booked for feigning injury. He lay on the floor, the referee told him to get off the pitch for treatment, but then he said he was fine. Out came the yellow. Fair enough really.

81: Agbonlahor breaks down the Villa left on the counter-attack. He picks out Ashley Young with a pinpoint cross to the back post but Young cannot find the net this time as he volleys into the stands.

80: Jenas' shot is blcoked and Spurs work the ball to Lennon, who passes into empty space when the shot was on.

78: Giovani cuts in from the right and shoots low. It deflects off Laursen and away for a Spurs corner.

77: Villa are keeping the ball well much to the disgust of the home fans, who by the sounds of it have had enough.

74: Reo-Coker elects to shoot when a pass to Agbonlahor could've sealed it, and Lennon nearly makes him pay with a run and shot that cannons off Davies and away to safety.

73: Bentley curls a left-foot shot just over the Villa ball from 20 yards. That's as close as Spurs have come this half.

72: Milner does well to keep a ball in play and he delivers an excellent cross from the Villa left. It just evades Barry and drifts wide of the Spurs goal. That could easily have been 3-0.

69: James Milner has replaced Carew for Villa. He tries to find a team-mate with a pass inside from the left but can only find Jenas who sets Spurs on the attack.

68: Bent fires a shot just wide as Spurs attempt to get back into this.

65: Dos Santos Giovani has just come on for Dawson and he drags a shot wide with his first involvement.

64: The last three e-mails I have received are all from Spurs fans and the all contain the word 'shambles' in the title.

62: Bentley's corner evades eveyone and goes out for a Villa goal-kick. Carew hobbles off and he looks unlikely to be able to carry on.

Garry Anderson has e-mailed in congratulating me on highlighting the 14/1 value about Ashley Young scoring the next goal. All part of the service Garry, hope you were on. I wasn't.

60: Carew is on his back receiving treatment.

59: Petrov's free-kick fails to beat the Tottenham wall.

57: Dawson takes out Ashley Young and that's cynical stuff from the Spurs man. A yellow card is rightly produced. Free-kick to Villa.

56: It was a good start to the second half from Spurs but all that ealt endevour has been undone by Gomes' blunder. 2-0 to Villa - can Spurs come back from this? They were 4-1 down in the fixture last year but still won a point.

54: GOAL - ASHLEY YOUNG! Young shoots towards the corner from distance and although it's a clean strike Gomes makes a real mess of it and lets it slide under him and into the net. Horrendous stuff from the Spurs 'keeper.

53: Stilyan Petrov volleys a super long pass to Agbonlahor to turn defence into attack. Agbonlahor threatens to cut inside his man but is forced wide and eventually makes do with a corner.

52: Spurs with some early pressure. They win a corner from the free-kick and Villa make a bit of a has of clearing their lines.

51: Villa clear the corner but Spurs win back the ball immediately. Bentley skips away from Carew who then cynically hacks him down. A caution for the Villa man, free-kick to Spurs.

50: Lennon with a good effort from 20 yards. Friedel tips it over for a corner.

48: Jenas is off the pitch as he receives treatment for a cut above his eye.

47: Lennon beats Shorey, gets to the by-line and chips a cross to the back post. Bent wins the header but it loops into the arms of Friedel.

46: The second half is under way. David Bentley has come on for Didier Zokora for Spurs.

Countless Spurs fans have e-mailed in their disgust at the first-half performance. Robert Hayward generally sums up the feeling as he writes: "Tottenham have been a disgrace and an embarrassment. We have a vast array of talent but I am disgusted to be called a fan at the moment."

Lee Godwin has e-mailed in to scrub his earlier prediction for 3-1 to Spurs. Don't give up Lee! If you do fancy Spurs to come from behind and win they are 11/2 to do so with Sky Bet, who make Villa 4/9 shots to close out the win. I'm still keen on the draw - a 13/5 chance now.

Let's have a look at the in-play markets at Sky Bet. Aaron Lennon has looked one of Spurs' chief threats and he is 25/1 to score the next goal, while Huddlestone isn't afraid to shoot from distance and he is a 28/1 shot. Mind you, I wouldn't bet against Villa going 2-0 up and Ashley Young has looked dangerous when cutting in from the left. He's a 14/1 chance to score next.

45: HALF-TIME - Tottenham 0 Aston Villa 1. The referee blows his whistle to signal the end of the first period. It's been an excellent 45 minutes for Villa, who deservedly lead 1-0 through Reo-Coker's early strike. What happens next? E-mail me at ben.linfoot@bskyb.com.

45: Barry concedes a corner deep into added time. Bale's cross looks dangerous but Jonathan Woodgate fouls Friedel and that should be it for the first half.

45: Not long before the break now - if you've got anything you want to get off your chest, or you think you know what might happen in the second period send me an e-mail in the interval to ben.linfoot@bskyb.com. There will be three minutes of added time.

44: Bent flicks up a ball for Huddlestone to hit from 25 yards but he can only drag is volley wide.

42: Villa deal with the second corner and try to mount a counter-attack of their own, but Dawson soon brings that to a halt.

41: Huddlestone volleys a cross into the six-yard box but Davies is there and concedes a corner. Bale's flag-kick evades everyone apart from a glancing Villa head and Spurs have another chance.

39: Dawson with a terrible mis-placed pass out of play. That must have been 10 yards away from Lennon, the disgusted target.

37: Reo-Coker' s deflected cross goes out for a corner to Villa. Agbonlahor flicks on Barry's curling set-piece but Spurs eventually clear their lines.

34: Lennon looks the chief threat for Spurs at the moment. Again he makes space down the right-hand side but this time his cross is headed clear first by Barry and then Laursen. After 34 minutes, it looks like the home side are waking up.

33: Spurs win a corner from the free-kick but Luke Young is there at the near post to head clear the flag-kick.

32: Davies comes in from behind on Jenas and Spurs have a free-kick in a good position on the edge of the Villa box.

30: Luka Modric, who looks to be carrying some sort of knock, is replaced by Jermaine Jenas and he heads straight down the tunnel.

29: Lennon reminds Villa of Spurs' threat with a pacy run down the right, although his cross cannot be kept in play.

28: Corluka makes a mess of a cross from the right to provoke groans from the home fans. Not much has gone right for Spurs so far.

27: Ashley Young cuts inside from the Villa left and curls a shot a couple of yards wide of Gomes' post. Spurs are living dangerously backing off Young in those areas.

25: Again Gomes elects to punch the Villa corner away instead of going for the catch. He gets away with it this time. Villa are creating some chances here and are well on top at present.

24: Gomes punches away a Villa corner, but it isn't a great one and Villa fire the ball back in. Agbonlahor heads goalwards from three yards but Gomes is back to make amends with the save.

22: Agbonlahor is away on the Villa right. He arrows an excellent cross into the six-yard box and Barry forces a superb save out of the stretching Heurelho Gomes.

21: Bale fires in a cross from the left, Pavlyuchenko controls and turns but can only hit his effort at Curtis Davis.

19: Ashley Young's free-kick is headed up in the air by Pavlyuchenko and Spurs clear the danger. Spurs break and Nicky Shorey is late on Aaron Lennon - he receives a yellow card for his troubles.

18: Michael Dawson gives away a free-kick after pulling the shirt of Carew. Laursen and company are up for this one while Agbonlahor receives treatment.

17: Gareth Barry tracks back to dispossess Pavlyuchenko on the edge of the illa box.

15: Ashley Young does well to beat Vedran Corluka to the ball following nice buil-up play from Spurs. Agbonlahor then gives away a needless free-kick that Bale curls into the arms of Friedel from 40 yards out.

13: Friedel fails to claim an outswinging free-kick from Gareth Bale but Martin Laursen clears the danger.

12: Carew gets his head to an Ashley Young cross but he cannot make a decent contact with the ball. 12 minutes in and the home crowd are showing their frustration already - it' all Villa at the moment.

11: Villa remain in control early on. Luke Young curls a cross over the Spurs bar following good work down the right from himself, Agbonlahor and Barry.

9: Pavlyuchenko flicks the ball up on the edge of the area but he cannot connect properly with his ambitious overhead kick attempt.

7: What a great start from Villa, we could be in for another 4-4 here! Lee Godwin from Texas is optimistic about a Spurs comeback - he's going for 3-1 to the home team.

6: An almost immediate reply from Spurs but Luka Modric's shot is well saved by Brad Friedel after good work from Pavlyuchenko.

5: GOAL - REO-COKER! A superb goal from Villa who tear Spurs apart with some slick passing. Ashley Young slides in Agbonlahor after a mazy run, John Carew flicks on the cross and Nigel Reo-Coker is there to bury it home.

3: Some early possession for Villa inside Spurs' half. They can't make anything of it, though, and eventually the home side have a free-kick.

2: Pavlyuchenko's first act is to concede a free-kick in the centre circle. However, he soon makes amends by threading a pass through to Bent who wins a corner for Spurs.

1: Aston Villa get the game under way.

The teams stride out on to the pitch at White Hart Lane. Ian Tait reckons the 12/5 about a Villa win is a fair price - he thinks Martin O'Neill's team will emerge as 2-1 victors. Les Pestell disagrees - he's hoping for a Spurs win with Darren Bent to open the scoring.

If I had to put my money where my mouth is I'd be on the stalemate at 9/4, but nobody cares what I think. What do YOU think? E-mail me your thoughts on the game at ben.linfoot@bskyb.com.

Spurs haven't had an inspiring start to the campaign and they sit bottom of the league after three games. Victory tonight will fire them up the league and they are 6/5 shots with Sky Bet to get the three points. Aston Villa are 12/5 and the draw is 9/4.

So, what price Pavlyuchenko to score on debut this evening? He's 7/4 to net anytime with Sky Bet, and a 6/1 chance to break the deadlock.

Here's tonight's teams: Tottenham: Gomes, Corluka, Woodgate, Dawson, Bale, Lennon, Zokora, Huddlestone, Modric, Pavlyuchenko, Bent. Subs: Cesar, Bentley, Jenas, Gilberto, Giovani, Campbell, O'Hara. Aston Villa: Friedel, Luke Young, Laursen, Davies, Shorey, Ashley Young, Petrov, Reo-Coker, Barry, Agbonlahor, Carew. Subs: Guzan, Milner, Harewood, Knight, Routledge, Cuellar, Gardner.

Pre-match: Tottenham coach Juande Ramos gives Roman Pavlyuchenko and Vedran Corluka their debuts in the Barclays Premier League clash against Aston Villa at White Hart Lane. Skipper Ledley King is not in the matchday squad so Jonathan Woodgate takes the armband and is in central defence alongside Michael Dawson. From the team that got a draw against Chelsea before the international break, Chris Gunter, Jermaine Jenas and Giovani dos Santos are left out and Aaron Lennon and Tom Huddlestone are brought in. Villa are unchanged from the team that got a draw against Liverpool, with new signing Carlos Cuellar on the bench.
