FINAL CHANCE FOR GERRARD AND LAMPARD
Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard are expected to be given another - but possibly last - chance to prove they can play together in England's midfield with Fabio Capello set to deploy the Three Lions in an adventurous 4-3-3 formation against Kazakhstan.
Having caused a surprise by selecting Theo Walcott in Zagreb, Capello is likely to defy his reputation for caution once again by using the Arsenal youngster in an attacking triumvirate alongside Wayne Rooney and Emile Heskey.
Yet focus is bound to be directed on the sight of Gerrard and Lampard in the same line-up again. The pair have previously failed to dovetail, causing plenty of sleepless nights for Capello most recent predecessors.
Yet with England once again training on Thursday in a 4-3-3 formation, it appears as if Capello is leaning towards using against a narrow, but adventurous, midfield formation against the unfancied Kazakhs. A final decision will be made later today but the likelihood is that, with Gareth Barry anchoring the midfield, Gerrard and Lampard will be handed a make-or-break final chance to prove their partnership can work.
The only other decision of note that Capello must make is the identity of Rio Ferdinand's central-defensive partner in the absence of John Terry. Joleon Lescott is expected to be given the nod ahead of Matthew Upson.
