The Who Cares? Gossip

BERBATOV PICKS HIS TIME
What are you doing here? Don't you know it's the first day of the season? That's not only the question the Gossip Column is asking you, it's also the quesiton Tottenham's Transfer Request Department is asking Dimitar Berbatov, if The Sun is telling the truth.

'The striker will be on the bench at Middlesbrough today,' claims the paper.

'A close pal of the Bulgarian said: "Dimi's decided to put in a transfer request.

'"He can't wait to go to Old Trafford and play for United.

'"He feels he behaved professionally throughout this period.

'"He has never spoken publicly on the situation out of respect for Tottenham.

'"But he does not want to miss out on the start of United's season and he feels that was his only option left."'

ALONSO IS OFF TO ARSENAL
With every man and his dog reporting that Xabi Alonso wants out of Anfield after being pushed towards the door all summer while Rafa beckoned suggestively at Gareth Barry, the Daily Mirror are convinced they know his destination.

As well as, like everyone else, reporting that Rafa nearly walked out on Liverpool after they wouldn't back his transfer wishes, the Mirror says Arsenal and Liverpool 'have opened talks about Xabi Alonso's cut-price move to the Emirates.'

Apparently the Gunners are refusing to meet the asking price because Alonso is cup-tied for the Champions League until February after playing on Wednesday night.

EVERTON MIGHT FINALLY SIGN SOMEONE
The Toffees kick off their season today with a big fat no-one in the 'in' section (and a big fat no-one on the bench, eh, Mr Van der Meyde?).

But David Moyes is keen to change that, and the Daily Mirror thinks Michael Johnson could be on his way to Goodison Park after refusing to sign a new contract with Manchester City.

ANOTHER OF BLACKBURN'S PLAYERS ON THE MOVE?
The Daily Mail thinks Sunderland have upped their pursuit of Benni McCarthy to £8.5m as they seek to bring in more firepower up front.

With Brad Friedel and David Bentley already gone and Roque Santa Cruz potentially on his way too, it's hard not to fear for Rovers.

CHELSEA TO DECIDE ON ROBINHO THIS WEEKEND
According to the Daily Star, if the Robinho deal is to be done it will be done this weekend.

Real Madrid don't want to sell the player, but he wants to go. And if you ask us, after the whole ROnaldo thing, it'll be quite funny if player power sees him move.

NEWCASTLE RULE OUT SELLING MILNER
Kevin Keegan says he's not going to let James Milner join Aston Villa. It's not going to happen. Milner's not going anywhere.

Anyone know anywhere where you can get odds on Milner leaving Newcastle by the end of the month?

AND THE REST
Spurs still want Andrei Arshavin and Vedran Corluka...Stoke have agreed a £1.5million fee for Southampton defender Andrew Davies...Ipswich have had a £500,000 bid accepted for Fulham's Moritz Volz...Rangers will sign Steven Davis for £3million next week.
