FLETCHER PROMOTED BY BURLEY

FLETCHER PROMOTED BY BURLEY

Fletcher - promoted to the squad.

Scotland boss George Burley has added Hibernian striker Steven Fletcher to his squad for Wednesday's World Cup qualifier in Iceland.

Fletcher has been promoted from the Under-21s after scoring twice in a 3-1 win over Slovenia last Thursday.

Fletcher comes into the squad as Burley monitors the fitness of Rangers forward Kenny Miller and full-back Graham Alexander.

The pair both suffered knocks in Saturday's defeat in Macedonia but Stephen McManus is fit after overcoming an ankle problem.

West Brom's James Morrison, who missed out in Macedonia, is again a doubt with an ankle injury.

Burley admitted his biggest concern was Miller's hamstring injury. He said: "We will see what Kenny is like but we have a good squad of players so we will pick from who is available.

"Graham Alexander and Kenny didn't train today and Kenny is the biggest worry with his hamstring.

"James Morrison did train for the first time today but it is touch and go whether he will be available for Wednesday."

If Alexander does not pass a weight fitness test it could lead to a surprise debut for Rangers full-back Kirk Broadfoot but Burley insisted he would have "no hesitation" in throwing the player into the action in Reykjavik.

Meanwhile, Burley claims to have no problem with Lee McCulloch despite reports this morning suggesting the Rangers midfielder does not want to be considered for selection while the former Southampton and Hearts boss is in charge.

McCulloch has not featured in any of Burley's squads since he took on the job in January.

But Burley insisted: "Lee has not spoken to me at all. I have no problems with Lee, he is a very good player.

"He has been injured and hasn't been playing for Rangers and I can't pick a player who is injured.

"I am sure Lee will speak to me but I am not aware of any problem at all, so this is a big surprise.

"I am sure he will explain if there is a problem but I don't have a problem with the boy."
