EDU'S OLD FIRM DELIGHT

EDU'S OLD FIRM DELIGHT

Edu - fans chanted his name.

Rangers new boy Maurice Edu has revealed his delight at hearing his name chanted by fans before even kicking a ball in anger for the club.

The USA midfielder, who signed from Major League Soccer's Toronto FC last month, was shocked to hear the travelling supporters single him out in Sunday's 4-2 Old Firm derby win at Parkhead.

The 22-year-old was warming up on the touchline when the chanting began.

"I was jogging and stretching," he told the Washington Post.

"I started listening a little bit. It sounded like they were saying, 'Edu'. I was like, 'Are they really saying that?'.

"I started listening a little more, and that's what they were saying."

Edu was set to make his debut as a second-half substitute against Celtic but Daniel Cousin's red card forced a tactical rethink from manager Walter Smith.

But that does not appear to have bothered Edu, who was just happy to be accepted by his new club's supporters.

"It's a cool feeling, you know, first game," he said.

"I didn't even play in a game and they already had a chant for me. It was a nice welcome."
