DRIVER IMPRESSED BY NEW BOSS

DRIVER IMPRESSED BY NEW BOSS

Laszlo - UEFA Cup target.

Hearts winger Andrew Driver believes the improved discipline and organisation instilled by new manager Csaba Laszlo can help push the team upwards this season.

Laszlo has set his players the target of qualification for the UEFA Cup in the coming campaign, which kicks off against Motherwell next Saturday.

After finishing eighth in the Bank of Scotland Premier League last term, the Tynecastle squad are enjoying the fresh approach of the Romanian-born Hungarian, who took over the reins three weeks ago.

And Driver, who this week agreed a new five-year contract, is confident that with a bit more consistency Hearts can win the race to be the best of the rest outside the Old Firm.

Speaking ahead of Sunday's friendly with Barclays Premier League newcomers Hull, the 20-year-old said: "I think the main thing is the discipline and the organisation. Everyone knows their role on the pitch and it's only been three weeks.

"We've still got a lot to work on but he's all about discipline. The way he goes about it, the players enjoy it and every training session you learn things.

"We're all positive and the manager's got his aims (of a UEFA Cup spot). He's seen us play and that's what he thinks we can achieve and I'm positive.

"We've shown over the last two years when we've been playing badly that we can still put together good results.

"We've been inconsistent but we've managed to get a few good results and if we can get that consistency and start scoring more goals then we've got every chance.

"We've definitely got the players to cause a surprise this season."

Driver was linked with a big-money move to English football this summer, with Owen Coyle's Burnley having two bids for the youngster turned down by Hearts.

The former Scotland schoolboy international insists he is happy to remain in Gorgie for the time being - but he wants to return south of the border at some stage in his career.

He added: "I'm happy to stay here and I've shown that by signing a new deal.

"I want to go down to England in the future but at the moment I'm a Hearts player.

"I'm still only 20, so I've got a long time to go and if I can improve as much as I hope I can then hopefully in the future I'll get the chance."
