LAY OFF SOUTHGATE, PLEADS LITA

LAY OFF SOUTHGATE, PLEADS LITA

Lita - players to blame.

Middlesbrough striker Leroy Lita has defended Gareth Southgate and insists the players should take responsibility for any poor performances.

Boro may sit third in the Championship but the former Reading man says the team know they need to improve and that they were not happy with the 1-0 home defeat to Leicester, as well as a couple of performances before that.

"The other night (against Leicester) the gaffer took way too much stick, it was us the players who deserved that, we weren't performing," he told the club's official website.

"We were told what to do and we didn't do it. The gaffer can't play for us.

"We just want to do well for him and the fans and us. We've all had disappointments, but we need to look forward, not back."
