TOWN TURNED DOWN WALTERS APPROACH
Walters - not for sale.
Ipswich Town have confirmed turning down an enquiry from a Premier League club for Jon Walters.
The striker was strongly linked with a move to the top flight during the transfer window, with Stoke City rumoured to have made a bid.
Fellow Premier League teams Everton, former club Hull, West Brom and Wigan were also mooted as admirers of the 25-year-old.
Though there were no concrete offers for Walters, Ipswich chief executive Derek Bowden revealed clubs were told the forward was not for sale.
"There was early interest in Jon which was declined by us," Bowden told the East Anglian Daily Times.
"There was another enquiry a week before the window when we made it clear he was not for sale.
"We never had a firm offer from Jon in writing.
"There was an enquiry on the Saturday which we declined and there was speculation that they would come in again on Sunday, but there was no call.
"We had another on deadline day, but even if it had been a written offer it would have been declined because he was not for sale."
