PARRY ADMITS TOSHACK DEBT
Paul Parry - Wales chance.
Cardiff's Paul Parry aims to repay Wales boss John Toshack for not abandoning him as an international player last season.
Parry, 28, was unable to commit himself to Wales for much of last season as he went through a divorce, but he has now asked to be included again in Toshack's plans.
He figured in last month's warm-up friendly against Georgia, and now hopes for his chance on Saturday in the opening World Cup qualifying group match with Azerbaijan at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
Parry, who played a key role in Cardiff's progress to last season's FA Cup final, said: "My form at Cardiff over the last two years has been improving, and now I want to take that on to international level.
"I did okay in the cup final, and could easily have scored. But that was a good experience and something for me to build on.
"Now John Toshack has given me my chance and I am to repay him. I missed a long time last season when I had some personal problems, but he kept faith with me and understood the situation.
"He never abandoned me and I appreciate that. Now I will do my best to prove I can play at the top level with Wales."
Parry added: "I have played a few positions, mainly as a midfielder. But I have also played up front and as a support striker and really enjoyed that. Maybe that would be my choice, but I will play anywhere now for Wales.
"I just want my chance to play again on Saturday against Azerbaijan. I will not know for sure until later in the week and I have no intention of counting my chickens.
"But these days, with me being 28, I am one of the most experienced people around and I can bring that to Wales with so many young players coming through."
Parry admits Wales must win their home games in this group to have any chance of qualifying for South Africa 2010.
He said: "This is a tough qualifying group, with Russia and Germany in with us. What we have to do is make sure we win our home matches against the other teams in the group to have a chance, and that starts on Saturday.
"We believe we can get something from Russia next week, but we must beat Azerbaijan first to send us to Moscow next Wednesday in good spirits."
