WELLENS EXTENDS ROVERS DEAL

WELLENS EXTENDS ROVERS DEAL

Wellens - is staying at Doncaster.

Doncaster's player of the year Richie Wellens has signed a new three-year contract with the club.

The 28-year-old midfielder, a Bosman free signing from Oldham last summer, played a key role in Rovers' promotion-winning campaign last season and has now committed himself to the club until 2011.

Wellens said: "It's a good club. It's a club that's going places and I was more than happy to sign on an extra two years to my current deal.

"The way we play football is one of the main reasons I wanted to stay.

"The manager is great in getting us to play the way he wants to play, he understands players very well. I'm more than happy here."

Doncaster chairman John Ryan added: "Richie is one of our pivotal players. He's a highly-prized player and the fact that he has committed himself to us for three years shows Richie's confidence that we can do well."
