Everton striker Yakubu has spoken of his delight at being named as Nigeria's captain for Saturday's World Cup qualifier against South Africa.
The powerful frontman was chosen to lead his country in the absence of his Everton team-mate Joseph Yobo.
Yakubu boasts an impressive goalscoring record on the international arena having netted 16 goals in his 43 appearances since first being capped.
"I am excited to lead my country, it's a fantastic honour," he told skysports.com.
